HI THERE, I’M CHRISTY
WELCOME TO THE INTRO TO COPPERPLATE CALLIGRAPHY COURSE
a LIVE training with critically acclaimed Calligrapher & Hand Letterer
CHRISTY TONEY
I do wedding envelopes in all different kinds of styles all during wedding season. There appears to be an overwhelming amount of whimsical, bouncy calligraphy styles out there. I wanted to give people a chance who may be interested, a chance to learn traditional script in a formal setting.
This course is perfect for a beginner as well as someone who is already doing calligraphy regularly. I go over the fundamentals of the pointed pen nib and how to use it. Questions that may arise as you are attempting to craft formal script letters:
How am I able to maintain a proper slant?
Is there a formula to crafting certain letters?
What are the best practice sheets/guidelines I can use for this kind of script?
How do you keep from going below the baseline when constructing scripts?
Is there a way to manage the way these letters touch?
How does pencil calligraphy play a role in learning a script?
Are there nib recommendations for this kind of calligraphy?
This course is designed to address these kinds of issues that you will find regularly as you tackle this kind of work.
WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?
I spent years trying to mimic scripts until I was able to take a class in a formal setting and it made all the difference in the world to my work… Seeing someone crafting these letters and being able to ask questions in real time was gold for me.
You should be able to confidently craft these letters on envelopes as well as signs after this instruction. Trust me. To be a versatile calligrapher/letterer, you will need to have more than one lettering style in your repertoire. Obviously, if you have a unique style, you can get hired to execute that style, but you want to get hired for a variety of work you’ll want to do more.
I know that I have a reputation for sign work, but pointed pen is where I started. You want to use your pointed pen nibs for more than bouncy work if you can. It will only open you up to more opportunities as you pursue work inside this discipline.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is this course live? Yes, this workshop will be hosted live by myself. I think live workshops are best because of the Q&A. I have purchased courses that have modules that I sadly still haven’t completed. A live host gives you a bit more incentive to show up and learn.
How long do I have access to the course? You will have lifetime access to this course after its completed.
Can I take this class if I’ve never done calligraphy before? Yes. Calligraphy experience will help you craft more successful letters obviously, however we will definitely be going over the pointed pen holders, the nibs, ink and how to get it to successfully glide over paper so no worries.
Is there an Earlybird rate? Earlybird rates have ended.
